The Market Value Project
The Market Value Project was a community building arts project which took place in the Preston Markets. Stallholders, patrons, young people and the market management worked towards the production of a live theatre show and multimedia exhibition which was staged at the heart of the Markets in November 2008. The project documented the rich cultural narratives of the market as well as showcased its unique role in community.
It had special relevance in relation to the announced redevelopment of the Preston Markets and helped to ensure this special cultural environment continues to play a strong role in Melbourne’s Northern suburbs.
The project began in 2006, initiated by TRAX, a group of arts practitioners based in Melbourne, Australia who initiate creative projects often in partnership with communities, organisations, government agencies, businesses and individuals & seek to build authentic relationships through cultural enquiry. TRAX works across genres, from theatre to filmmaking, specializing in site-specific work.
In June 2009 a book & DVD will be published which chronicles the markets & the two years of the project from start to finish.
Media content generated which chronicles many local stories & history will be upload to Wikinorthia over 2009.
